A Cheerful Dental Hour

Nichole here!  Yesterday evening, we were invited to a happy hour hosted by our upstairs neighbors, NCDC.  Nicholas Cosmetic Dental Center, or the Dentists as we affectionately call them, invited the whole building to snack, drink and tour their 4th floor suite.  I must say, I appreciated their use of JKOrange throughout their suite.

The dentists were nice enough to get fancy snacks for the party.  We had fruits and breads and cheese, as well as catered sushi.  Even though this was a dry party (no alcohol allowed in the dental office), we managed to have have a few laughs and make a few friends.  It was unanimously decided that there will be future building happy hours (complete with adult beverages) :-)

New Theater Going up in Williamsburg NYC

By now you've probably heard stories about the cool new place to live in New York City.  You always hear about Williamsburg and probably think first of colonial Williamsburg in Virginia, that boring town with wigs and old rifles.  But then you come to your senses and recall Williamsburg, NYC,  that place in Brooklyn with all the cool stuff and plaid shirts. Well, we are part of that cool.  Greg, Jose and Bob have been working on this seven screen theater for the better part of the last year.    It should be finishing up any day now and give the residents of Brooklyn an equally cool place to catch a flick.

NYC trip

Izzo Here: I took a little day trip this weekend to New York City and took in some sites and a show. I hadn't been in a few years so it was good to bump into some architectural icons I hadn't seen in a while.  The TKTS booth in Times Square designed by Choi Ropiha is pretty sweet. Empire State building of course, and the slammin New York Times building.  It's a little on the techy side for me, but I still like the idea of it.  Of course Instagram just makes everything cooler.

JKR Half Marathoners!

Sunday was a beautiful day for a run.... maybe even for some people, it was a beautiful day for a long run.  A really long run. A half marathon maybe.  Mike Farinella and Laura thought it was a good idea to run a really long run.  They both rocked out the Philly Rock and Roll Half Marathon yesterday.  Laura eeked out a slightly better time than Mike, but to Mike's defense, he was out til one in the morning at a bachelor party...The paparazzi was out taking snaps..Maybe next year we'll have a JKR Partners team? any takers?

Building Continuing Relationships

Blake Here: Thanks to a most generous Tom Donnelly of Quinn Construction some of us JKR peoples enjoyed the lap of luxury at last night’s Phillies game.  The seats were cushioned, the food and drinks were endless, and some man-servant named Steve accommodated our every request to ensure maximum joy.  And a joyous occasion it was as the Phillies did not disappoint, edging out the Marlins by 2 in a suspenseful performance that resulted in a total of 16 runs and 26 hits between the two teams.  This victory finally brought our hometown heroes to an even record of 71-71 while the current 6-game win streak increases the possibility of some post-season game play.  On behalf of the JKR attendees I’d like to say thanks again to Mr. Donnelly for the tickets to last night’s game, some fresh Quinn Construction tees, the discussion regarding the importance of blogging, and some high-fives in honor of last night’s glorious achievement….I think we’re good luck, we should do this again sometime in the near future.

Auxiliary Sketchbook

I am going to post this because Tiff just gets too shy sometimes. Tiff is a busy woman.  She's always got something on her plate.  This summer she organized a Sketchbook Meetup themed around some of the buildings of noted Philadelphia architect Julian Francis Abele.  Every month the group would focus on a different building; The Union League, the Free Library, and lastly the Art Museum.  Sunday, the group was at the Art Museum where a handful of people got to hear a mini lecture by Mike Spain about some of the history of the development of the museum and some of the players behind how it came to be.  Pretty cool stuff, and a beautiful day to be sketching! Check out the sketches! Click them for a bigger image.
