New Starplex Cinema in the works

The exterior is a little different than your typical theatre.
when have you ever seen a bar like this in a theater? never!

We've got a new Starplex Cinema in the works, this time in Ashburn, VA.  The theatre is part of a new development called Loudon Station.  We're probably 80 percent finished at this point, and the seats and finishes are going in as we write.  It's always nice to do a project like this where it's part of a bigger project.

Regal Moorestown Grand Opening

Last night was the grand opening of the brand new Regal Cinema in Moorestown, NJ.  Paul, Rick and Greg were on hand to receive their much deserved VIP treatment.  Judging from the crowd, the theaters were getting rave reviews.  After some cocktails and hors d'oeuvres, the audience was treated to a sneak preview of The Hunger Games-Catching Fire on the huge 55' screen in the RPX theater.

ICSC Convention in Atlantic City

The International Council of Shopping Centers' convention was held this week at the Atlantic City Convention Center where Dave, Paul and Jerry were doing their networking thing late into the evening showing off our best work in hopes of landing the next big project.  It's an IDEA exchange, so hopefully they got some good new ideas, and dished out a lot of good ones to potential clients.

"Sacrifice the body for the team"

Jen here.  For the first annual JKR Scavenger Hunt, Team Paul did not skip a beat.  You want us to pose like mannequins?  You got it.  You want us to jump into the fountain at Love Park?  Done.  Our entire team (Paul, Terra, Tim, Blake and I) jumped enthusiastically into 'team mode' without a second of hesitation.  We may not have been so great with the pigeons, but we definitely made the day more exciting for several very lucky statues.  Thank you so much to Team Fun for organizing one of the most enjoyable office outings imaginable!

Breaking Ground With Penn Cinema

The newest addition to the Wilmington Riverfront

Penn talking to the crowd

Zach here with some big news in East Coast multiplex news.  After a number of starts and stops, it looks like the Penn Cinema in Wilmington, DE is going to happen. Paul and I attended the groundbreaking ceremony last Thursday morning for the $20 million 14 screen plus IMAX complex. Penn Ketchum (president of Penn Cinema Management Co.), along with a large group of family and friends from Lititz, PA, various dignitaries, the mayor of Wilmington and some grown men in pajamas also attended the ceremony. Penn plans a grand opening on November 9 for the debut of Skyfall, the 23rd James Bond Film.  I'll keep you updated as we roll toward that opening date.

AIA Golf Outing, and Jose Got Robbed!

JKR Partners manhandled the annual AIA golf outing at Huntingdon Valley Country Club on Monday. G-dubs, P.Georges, Jason Wistreich, Hoser Hernandez and Shizzle my Izzle represented the JKR squad. I can speak for my foursome, we played really well and impressed our clients; We even won something-or-other for the course we played.  Jose pretty much got robbed on the straightest drive contest though. Someone had to have moved the rope.  But I gotta say, that rope wasn't straight. It just so happened that Jose hit the crookedest drive that lined up with the straight rope.

Happy Birthday Dear PauJaSaGreggg!!!!

Tram Fun here:  Last week, the office got together for a little pizza party on the deck to celebrate our June birthdays.  Don’t worry I won’t reveal identities or ages of our two milestone birthdays!  Despite all of this celebrating, our “singing” was just as pitiful as ever.  Everyone quickly came alive again when reaching for a delicious piece of chocolate glazed chocolate pound cake from Cake and the Beanstalk.  yummy!  Happy Birthday Paul, Jason, Sam, and Greg!!!

Meet Steve!

Bob Here:  Meet Steve!  He’s new at the firm.   He is a little on the quiet side but we think he will fit in just fine.  Steve is an expert in  Eco-friendly design and construction.  When not saving the world through design Steve enjoys hiking, searching for berries and taunting men in spandex riding bikes.

Penn Lighting - Lightfair International 2011

Paul Here: Tuesday a full cast of JKR Partners attended Penn Lighting Associate's reception at the Philadelphia Reading Terminal Market as part of Lightfair International's annual Trade Show and Conference event. Live music performance by 61 North, plenty of food and spirits, as well as a visit from the Phillie Phanatic, (although his presence would have been better served in Saint Louis that night), were on tap. Glenn W., Matt, Jon, Lauren U., Mike I., and myself  took in the sights, sounds and tastes of Philadelphia.

We ate too much...

Glenn F. Here: Last night, Paul & I attended BizBites, Philly’s hottest happy hour with tasty samplings from numerous of the area’s top restaurateurs. We strategized our options in an effort to save extra space for the countless, scrumptious foods and drinks. The Oyster House’s Delaware Bay Oysters and Delicatessen’s Philly Bagel Rolls won our ranking of favorite, delicious foods. We also overstuffed our bellies with plenty of sweet treats courtesy of Desserts By Dana, Pop-A-Nugget and Pudding Lane. Donned in his black trench coat and shades, the security guard straight out of the vault of some cheesy B-movie provided lots of entertainment. In an abrupt manner, the conspicuous sentry relentlessly harassed all of the guests away from the second floor railing.

Check us out @ the ACE Breakfast

Lauren Here: This year's ACE Scholarship breakfast was held at the new National Museum of American Jewish History on Independence Mall.   Jerry, Paul, Dave, Marissa, Tiff, Mike and I attended.  After the breakfast we were free to take a tour of this awesome building!  We checked out some of the display areas and got a closer look at the cool architectural details.

NATO 2011

On a sunny Tuesday in a rented caddy, Bob road tripped down I-95 with Paul and Glenn to exhibit at the National Association of Theater Owners (NATO) Trade Show in Springfield, VA. Tony Soprano and your grandma would have envied this beaut. The day was a good opp for the guys to fraternize with the VIP theater folks. After the trade show adventure, happy hour and a chicken dinner, Bob zipped the exhausted JKR Team home in his silver chariot.

Markos Accepted and going to Colgate University!

Principal Paul Georges would like everyone to know that he's very proud of his youngest son Markos, for selecting Colgate University as his college of choice for next year.  Paul and Markos planned on touring around both Bucknell and Colgate last weekend, but after Markos was on Colgate's campus for a few hours, he decided it's where he wants to be next year.  Paul's eldest son Stefano is studying Chemical Engineering at Drexel University.  The smarts must run in the family.

A handful of JKR team members found their way to Yogawood in Collingswood, NJ this past weekend in support of Mike Izzo and his sketch exhibit. Mike's display was part of Collingswood's "Second Saturday" arts and entertainment event. We expect more opportunities to view Mike's work and witty sense of humor.

CINEMACON 2011

Paul, Bob, and Glenn exhibited the JKR goods at CinemaCon last week in Vegas. For those of you who have no idea what CinemaCon is, it's the national trade show for all the movers and shakers in the movie industry from directors, to popcorn vendors.  In addition to making some key business connections there, they got to rub shoulders with some future stars.  This picture is of Bob and Paul with Zach Gordon, who stars in The Diary of A Wimpy Kid.  Gordon was signing autographs in the both next to ours.
